About Safwan Sobhan Tasvir

Safwan Sobhan Tasvir is the Vice Chairman of Bashundhara Group, the largest conglomerate in  Bangladesh. He is also an entrepreneur and investor whose business ventures have driven economic growth through job creation and innovation. Safwan’s tenacious work ethic and keen problem-solving abilities have been instrumental in his over 15 years of success as a member of the Group’s executive branch.

Safwan has played a key role in the company’s astronomical success. His ability to solve problems creatively has benefited the expansion of the enterprise into over 25 business, industrial, maritime,  and manufacturing ventures. Safwan is known for promoting a sustainable business model that considers protecting people and the environment within the plan for profit. His inspirational leadership has earned Safwan the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) of Bangladesh award and many other accolades.

Safwan, originally from Bangladesh, spent his early years growing up in the UK, where he completed studies at the Shiplake College, Oxfordshire, a private boarding school renowned for its high level of pastoral care and personal development of each student. He graduated from the American Intercontinental University and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on International Business in 2007. 

An Inspirational Executive 

As Vice Chairman of Bashundhara Group, Safwan Sobhan has been instrumental in the Group’s expansion into new territories and product lines, including Ready Mix Cement, Cement, Toiletries,  Paper, Steel, Bashundhara Multi Trading, Airways, Real Estate Construction, Shipping and Logistics,  and Media through Daily Sun and T Sports. He is known for his charismatic leadership style in implementing business strategies to achieve goals and enhance performance. Safwan represents the Group in meetings with stakeholders, external partners, and the public. He excels in communicating corporate goals to executive management teams, driving financial performance, and ensuring adherence to operating budgets. 

Safwan has also been instrumental in steering the Group into more socially responsible endeavors and is key in implementing plans that benefit the general public. The Group has long been a proponent of low-cost health and medical education, donating millions to the Prime Minister’s Relief  Fund to help the government tackle the 2020 pandemic. Other philanthropic initiatives inspired by  Safwan include contributions that effectively lowered the tuition of meritorious students enrolled in the Bashundhara Ad-Din Medical College and provided affordable costs for pregnant women in delivery. 

A Process-driven Leader 

Safwan Sobhan Tasvir applies strategic planning in operations management and business development, earning him industry-wide recognition as an innovative industrialist. As a process-driven leader, Safwan prioritizes continuous improvement of internal operating processes. He leads the establishment of clear workflows to achieve corporate goals and improve overall performance.  The positive results of Safwan include the Bashundhara Group’s success by using modern production practices, automated management technologies, and optimized supply chains.

Over the past decades, the Group has expanded into multiple industries, including Bashundhara  City, which manages its land development concerns. Safwan has played a major role in the flagship megamall, which boasts 19 retail and office space levels. The Group also spearheaded the 7,000-acre Bashundhara Baridhara Housing Project (BBHP) to address Dhaka’s rapid population growth.  This aggressive community project includes several facilities, such as hospitals, schools, shopping centers, amusement parks, and police barracks. 

Safwan has been instrumental in the Group’s building of the Bashundhara Sports Complex, the largest indoor sports complex in the country, with over 50 acres of field space to support football,  hockey, and numerous other sports activities. Under the leadership of Safwan and the Group’s executive team, significant business developments are underway, including a $500 million investment to establish the largest steel manufacturing plant in the Bashundhara Industrial  Economic Zone. This initiative involves setting up two facilities, Bashundhara Pre-fabricated Building  Manufacturing Industries, and Bashundhara Multi Steel Industries, which are projected to produce over 2 million tonnes of hot-rolled coils annually. Moreover, East West Media Group Ltd., the country’s largest media house, operates several major media outlets, including television channels,  FM radio stations, an online newspaper, and three print publications. 

Notable Accolades 

Safwan Sobhan Tasvir has been a driving force in the meteoric rise of the Bashundhara Group’s conglomeration for nearly two decades. He has received numerous awards as a leader in the Group’s business and charitable endeavors. In 2022, he was graced with the Global Leader of the Year award for his outstanding leadership and efficiency in running the Group. The event was attended by many public leaders, diplomats, business executives, investors, and royal dignitaries. In 2020, he was recognized with the prestigious Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) of Bangladesh award for his outstanding contribution to Bangladesh’s economic development. 

In 2022, Vice-Chairman Safwan Sobhan was awarded the highest taxpayer in the young category for his significant contributions to national financial growth. This award is due to his corporation’s steadfast determination to increase Bangladesh’s infrastructure, including housing, recreation,  manufacturing, transportation, and human resources. He was also named a “Commercially  Important Person (CIP)” for his outstanding contributions to the industrial sector in Bangladesh. 

Safwan is a dedicated father and husband who enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He has had the distinct privilege of being a change-maker in the business sector, adding a fresh voice and a down-to-earth leadership style that enhances the Bangladesh economy and people as a whole.
